DAPHNIS ET CHLOÉ is a pastoral one-act comedy opera by Jacques Offenbach, based upon the Greek myth of Daphnis and Chloe. The pair of sherpherds care for each other deeply, yet are too innocent to know what love and desire entail. The god Pan, along with his saucy bacchantes, come along to help the pair discover new lessons in romance and sexuality. In homage to the original performance, the role of Daphnis is played by a mezzo-soprano in drag. Pennsylvania premiere!
